Mangata 50 is part of a series that exercises the marrying of chance-derived gestures with systematic grid geometry. In this body of work, I explore the pictorial ideas in the works of Frank Stella's grids, Matisse's cutouts, and Gerhard Richter's blurred aesthetic. Through this playful hybridization, I set out to create a dynamic composition of motifs emerging out of obscuration and repetition. The piece is made of acrylic paint and aerosol on a cradled wood panel with natural edges. It comes varnished and ready to hang.
