Samat Illustrated plate from Les Chiens le Gibier et Ses Ennemis (The Dogs, the Game and their Enemies) Saint-Etienne, France: Mimard & Blachon, 1895-1931 Chromolithographs Sheet size: 7 ½" x 11 ¾" This splendid series of dog illustrations is based off of original watercolors by P.Mahler. The comprehensive work on species of hunting dogs, including beagles, hounds and retrievers, was produced by the company Mimard and Blachon. Each dog is shown in an appropriate outdoor scene of fields, mountains, woods and lakes. Mimard and Blachon was a manufacturer of hunting rifles, and published these volumes to be gifted to their best clients. The publication also included images of game (birds, deer, rabbits, etc.) and hunting guns.
