This is a fine example of Daniel Johnston's enigmatic-yet-striking artwork. A hand, rendered in pink and red marker, grasps a dollar bill. The two are far out of proportion, at least in terms of familiar reality. The money is highlighted by a corona of wavy yellow lines; has it shrunk, never enough to go around? Or is the hand hugely swollen, much larger-than-life, like some outsize demon fingering the cash? The artist isn't likely to say.
